“Water tower in the city” highlights Longgang's “15-minute cultural life circle”

As the city lights go up during the night, a“water tower” situated on Longyue Road of Longgang, a county-level city of Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, shines like a crystal palace, in which many local residents are seen doing some reading... This is the city's study of Longyue Road, a“water tower in the city”. Since its trial operation, visitors have been coming in an endless stream.

Once a landmark, 

the tower makes a comeback as the“culturalbeacon”

The city's study is renovated from an old waterworks built before the village-to-town upgrading of Longgang. Officially put into use in September 1983, the waterworks witnessed the start of Longgang's water supply, carrying the collective memory of the locals in this generation.

The waterworks has been added renewed cultural connotations after its renovation into a city's study. The eye-catching lights of the building turn the water tower into the city's“cultural beacon”, boasting vitality of the already robust city culture.

The city's study has three floors. The ground floor is divided into aleisure area and a reading area, with bookstores, libraries, bars and dessert shops open to the public. The second floor consists of another reading area and a multi-functional lounge, where  cultural events are held regularly. The cultural community and the interactive area on the third floor host a series of reading sessions at a fixed time period.

Eight major cultural facilities built within 

six months showcase Longgang speed of cultural development

The water tower is a good example showcasing the Longgang speed of the cultural facility construction, as it was first designed in April and opened to the public in September. Apart from it, other projects the city is working to wrap up within this year include the city's study of Longgang Government Affairs Service Center, the city's study of Xipai Village, the parent-child reading room of the city's study of Cuihu Lake, Longgang Art Museum, Longgang Lacquerware Museum, Longgang Xiaoyi ArtMuseum and Kongjian BookHouse at Gantou Village. The“15-minute cultural life circle” of Longgang is beginning to take shape.

Longgang is reported to have introduced leading social organizations and enterprises to operate and manage these public cultural facilities while the guiding catalogue and regulations have been formulated so as to improve the  government procurement system and diversify the supplies of public cultural services via purchasing from the private sectors.

Spending a“weekend of art and culture” 

in 15-minute cultural life circle at the“doorsteps”

The summer break this year was packed with various activities. Sanyuan Community organized a beer festival, a music bazaar, a trunk bazaar and a recital in Hanfu clothing(traditional dress of the Han Chinese people). Xinlan Community, together with the city's study of Xipai Village, held a series of literary and artistic activities including lectures on art. In the Yanjiang branch of Longgang Library, Hedigao Community staged reading clubs, story sharing sessions and other events for teenagers. As Longgang's“15-minute cultural life circle” is built in full swing, local citizens can live a“weekend of art and culture” simply at their doorsteps. Longgang, in its pursuit of“spiritual common prosperity”, tailors its services to the needs of“the elderly and children”, enabling them to enjoy easy access to colorful cultural services.

The activities held in each city's study of Longgang, including the ones at Xipai Village and Shiji Xincheng, are interwoven into the“15-minute cultural life circle”. Other newly built ones will follow suit once they are put into operation. The cultural activities in these venues will be regularly held, fully demonstrating the characteristics of the communities where they are located.

The“15-minute quality cultural life circle” in Longgang has“rooted” the local culture at people's doorsteps, providing the locals in Longgang with convenient and colorful cultural lives. (ZhongXin)
