Over 170 exhibitors from Wenzhou, a hub of China's eyewear industry, flew to Milan, Italy for the MIDO Eyewear Show on Feb 2, local media outlets reported.
The show, which will be held from Feb 4 to 6, is the largest international show dedicated to the global eyewear sector, with more than 1,500 exhibitors from over 50 countries presenting their latest products in six pavilions and eight exhibition areas.
It is the first time that Wenzhou's eyewear insiders have participated in an overseas show since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
"We've already made an appointment with a client to meet at the Milan fair and expect to sign a deal worth more than $30 million. This time, we hope to visit more customers in Milan, as we haven't seen each other for a long time," said Zhou Aisong, chairman of Zhejiang Tongda Optical Co and president of the Ouhai district eyewear industry association.
"Getting orders at professional exhibitions is one of the best ways for enterprises to explore overseas markets. Since September last year, we've been inviting enterprises to sign up for the Milan Eyewear Show and started contacting airlines to charter flights, so as to provide one-stop services for participating enterprises," said Xu Chengsong, chairman of Broad and Grand Exhibition, an exhibition service supplier."The booths of Wenzhou participants occupy about 80 percent of the Asia pavilion of the Milan show."
