When Milan meets Wenzhou: Chinese and Italian artists create artwork along the Nanxi River

On May 29th, the"When Milan meets Wenzhou: Wenzhou outdoor painting and exhibition by Chinese and Italian artists" series came to Yongjia, where artists from both countries gathered inspiration from the landscapes of the Nanxi River and created their artwork along the Nanxi river. 

The trip started at the Nanxi Academy, which is a significant representative of the Chinese rural art gallery located in Weifeng village of Hesheng town in Yongjia. Behind the academy is the renowned Shiwei Rock on the Nanxi River, offering an excellent opportunity for artistic exchange and outdoor painting. Lin Rongsheng, a traditional Chinese painting researcher at the Chinese National Academy of Painting, stated that as a landscape artist, the scenery of the Nanxi River and its fresh and transparent natural environment has left a deep impression on him. 

In the afternoon, the Italian artists concentrated on creating their artwork on the second floor exhibition hall in the Nanxi Academy. They depicted the landscapes of the Nanxi River and night skies in a free and unconstrained style. Italian sculptor Antonio Ievolella glued gold for his paintings on the canvas board, took a few branches trimmed from the garden, and used them in his paintings. He said,"I hope to reflect the content and elements of the environment in my creation, especially water. I found that the value of water is emphasized in Nanxi River as it is in my hometown in Italy." Meanwhile, Concetta Modica, an Italian artist, dipped various fabrics in paint and tapped them on the painting board to create a deep and varied blue night sky. 

In the following week, Chinese and Italian artists will tour scenic spots such as Shiwei Rock, Lishui ancient street, Cangpo ancient village, Lion Rock and Daruo Rock in Yongjia to create their outdoor artwork among the idyllic settings. They will discuss techniques, exchange academic insights, enjoy local performances and Intangible Cultural Heritage, and create a documentary called"When Milan meets Wenzhou." This event will provide more practical materials for exploring the"Art in Rural Areas" and promoting shared prosperity in Yongjia county.（Anyu Hu  Xuebing Wang）
