The Nature Index 2023 Annual Tables were recently released, revealing that six mainland institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have made it to the global top 10. A total of 123 domestic institutions have been selected for the 2023 Nature Index Annual Tables' global academic institution TOP500. Among them, Wenzhou University secured the 99th position with a total of 91 research papers and a score of 43.86.
In recent years, Wenzhou University has shown promising development. It has gained recognition as a key construction university in Zhejiang Province and has been granted the authority to award doctoral degrees. The university has also implemented a comprehensive strategy focused on promoting scientific research, with significant advancements made through the Natural Science Nurturing Project. As a result, the research capabilities of its faculty members have steadily improved, leading to a remarkable increase in global academic influence. Wenzhou University has consistently ranked among the top 5 institutions in the province in terms of the Nature Index, and within the top 100 in the country.
The Nature Index, first introduced in November 2014, is a database that calculates the number of research papers published by universities and research institutes in influential international scientific journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell. Using this database, rankings and journal indexes can be compiled based on the quantity and categories of papers published by each institution. The Nature Index has now become an internationally recognized benchmark for measuring the high-quality research output and collaboration in the field of natural sciences at institutional, national, and regional levels.
