On March 30th in the morning, the "International Waste-Free Day" event for 2024 was held in Shuangjingfang neighborhood, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, further promoting the formation of a waste-free new trend throughout the region and enhancing the"Waste-Free City" label of Wenzhou.

"Waste-Free City" construction connects pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction on one end, and the livelihood of the people on the other. In the Shuangjingtou Road market, which has a daily flow of over 20,000 people, Lucheng innovatively established a "Waste-Free Alliance" to encourage the public to use cattail baskets and eco-friendly bags for shopping, balancing business attraction for merchants and promoting long-term environmental shopping habits across society.

On the day of the event, all alliance merchants participated in the"Waste-Free" joint action, offering free gourmet benefits and shopping discounts for citizens who checked in with their badges. Additionally, craftsmen were invited to teach citizens on-site how to weave non-heritage bamboo baskets, unlocking environmental protection at one's fingertips. Xiao Zhao Seafood, a member of the"Waste-Free Alliance", distributed over 300 check-in benefits, with a top-tier configuration of 5 oysters, setting a new record for store traffic."It's okay to be generous; mainly, it's very worthwhile to participate in this event!", said Zhao Saisai, the store manager. "Our business is always good on the 30th of every month; it benefits the citizens and also brings actual traffic to our operations."

Since the beginning of this year, Lucheng has been exploring the creation of the first batch of provincial-level "Waste-Free Business Districts" and the first plastic-limited road markets as "minor key events" to advance the construction of the"Waste-Free City". Currently, the Shuangjingtou market has basically achieved a complete ban on the use of non-degradable single-use plastic bags, reducing"white trash" by 1 ton per day.

Leading the new future of green cities, Wenzhou will continue to explore public waste-free behavior guidelines such as waste-free business districts, waste-free vegetable markets, waste-free parks, waste-free fairs, and waste-free offices. Efforts will be made to practice waste-free block and business district standards and to form a radiating driving effect in traceability and waste-free research studies, gradually making the"Waste-Free City" a distinct mark and a new business card of ecological Wenzhou.
