Recently, at the Dongtou Zhuwan Mangrove Blue Carbon Protection and Development Demonstration Base, clay pots were placed in the mangrove wetland. This is the green crab ecological clay pot aquaculture project launched by the Dongtou Marine Economic Sci-tech Innovation Center. After the clay pots are placed, 12,000 green crabs will be introduced next month.

Located in Niyu sub-district, Dongtou, the Dongtou Zhuwan Mangrove Blue Carbon Protection and Development Demonstration Base is the first project in China to officially implement the EOD (Ecology-Oriented Development) mangrove blue carbon protection and development demonstration base construction. The project includes the design and installation of an intelligent water and fertilizer irrigation system for mangroves, mangrove ecological farm demonstration sites, science popularization and research experience sites, and other facilities. The purpose of this green crab ecological clay pot aquaculture project is to enhance the ecological diversity of the mangrove area while adding ecological and economic benefits.

The choice of ecological clay pot aquaculture is mainly due to the ease of cleaning the clay pots and their non-clogging of the sea area. At the same time, the one-pot-one-crab farming method does not require artificial feed, but relies on natural epibionts and fish in the mangrove ecosystem as bait for green crabs. The excrement of green crabs can also provide fertilizer for mangroves, which is conducive to their growth. In this way, a win-win situation for ecology and economic development can be achieved.

In addition to green crab ecological aquaculture, researchers will further strengthen scientific research on blue carbon monitoring, pest and disease control, and other aspects in the entire mangrove area. They will restore the marine ecosystem and protect marine biodiversity according to local conditions.(ZhongXin)
