Wenzhou University and Russian Youth Jointly Compose a New Chapter of Friendship

On July 1, 2024, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia and the China-Russia Cultural Year, to enhance the understanding and friendship between the youth of the two countries, and to further promote cultural exchange and educational cooperation between the two countries, the "Volga River Basin Federal District Youth Yangtze River Tour (Wenzhou Station)" event was held with great pomp at Wenzhou University. As part of the "Yangtze River-Volga River" University Alliance Youth Exchange Camp, the event was jointly hosted by the International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Wenzhou University, and invited 9 outstanding young representatives from Volgograd State Technical University, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, and Siberian Industrial University of Russia.

On the first day of the event, the Russian youth delegation arrived in Wenzhou smoothly and was warmly received by the International Office and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Wenzhou University. The representatives visited the Wenzhou University Museum to understand the long history and brilliant achievements of the school, and then visited the unique charm of the hair embroidery art museum, experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese art in person. Through these activities, the representatives had a preliminary understanding of Wenzhou University and looked forward to the upcoming itinerary.

On the second day, the opening ceremony was held in the International Education College of Wenzhou University. Representatives of Chinese and Russian students spoke and exchanged gifts, symbolizing the bridge of friendship. In the Chinese experience course, the representatives learned the basic tones of Chinese and the writing of Chinese characters, and tried to communicate in simple Chinese. Subsequently, they attended the Chinese tea art course, learned about the history of tea culture, and personally experienced the process of making and tasting tea. In the afternoon, the representatives visited Jiangxin Island, visited Dongta, Xita, Haoran Building, and Jiangxin Temple, and felt the history and culture of Wenzhou.

On the third day, the representatives experienced the Ou kiln production course and visited the Ou Cuisine Museum. At the Wenzhou City Student Practice School, the representatives learned the Ou kiln production process and made porcelain cups by hand, deeply feeling the charm of this traditional craft. Subsequently, they visited the Ou Cuisine Museum and made fried rice noodles and boiled dumplings under the guidance of the teacher, tasting the authentic Wenzhou cuisine. In the afternoon, the representatives visited the Wenzhou Academician Couplet Museum and Wenzhou Museum, and learned about the calligraphy art and rich historical culture of Wenzhou.

On the fourth day, the event started with a dynamic dragon boat race. The Wenzhou University School of Physical Education arranged a Chinese-Russian youth dragon boat race, and the representatives experienced the charm of the traditional Chinese sports project and enhanced team cooperation and friendship in the competition. In the afternoon, the representatives went to the Yandang Mountain Scenic Area to appreciate the natural beauty of the Lingyan Scenic Area, Wolong Valley, and XiaolongQiu, and watched the high-altitude crossing performance. In the evening, the representatives visited the night view of the Lingfeng Scenic Area, feeling the mystery and beauty of nature.

On the fifth day, the representatives took the high-speed train from Yandang Mountain to Hangzhou to experience the speed and comfort of China's high-speed rail. In Hangzhou, they visited the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum to understand the history and culture of the Grand Canal and visited the Grand Canal Cultural District and Gongchen Bridge. In the afternoon, the representatives came to West Lake, took a boat tour, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of San Tan Yin Yue and Qu Yuan Feng He, and took a group photo by West Lake. The Hangzhou trip allowed the representatives to have a deeper understanding of China's modernization and historical culture.

On the sixth day, the closing ceremony was held in the carefully arranged Shangen Music Art Village by Wenzhou University and Chashan Street. The Party Committee Secretary of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Yi Zhaodi, expressed in his speech that he hoped this activity would further deepen the understanding and friendship between the youth of the two countries and promote the integration and development of Chinese and Russian cultures. Zhou Dan, the Deputy Director of the Chashan Street Office, said that the activity fits the construction of the international demonstration block of the street and provides an international environment suitable for learning and living for international students. Subsequently, Zheng Guojian, the person in charge of the Wenzhou International Communication Center, and Xiong Yong, the Deputy Director of the School International Office, and others jointly issued "China-Russia Cultural Exchange Friendship Envoy" appointment letters to the 9 Russian young students. In the artistic performance section, Wenzhou University students performed the pipa duet "Send Me a Rose", and the chorus sang the song "Do You Know".Russian youth performed a tea art stage short play, and sang the classic song "Katyusha" and the young people of the two countries sang "Lemon Tree" together, and the singing was full of the beautiful feelings of friendship and cooperation.

The main organizer of this event, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Wenzhou University, has a close cooperation with Russian universities, and has established the "Zhejiang-Russia (Wenzhou University) Ultrafast Laser Advanced Manufacturing International Cooperation Joint Laboratory", carried out the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Russian Science Foundation cooperative research project, and the college has dispatched a total of 5 students to Russia to study for a doctorate. And jointly organized the Mechanical Engineering (Sino-foreign Cooperative Education) major with Volgograd State Technical University, the Russian side will dispatch 22 high-level teachers to undertake 24 characteristic courses. With this major as a platform, it is believed that more Russian scholars and students will come to Wenzhou University for exchange and study in the future, promote the win-win cooperation between Russian universities and Wenzhou University, and promote the continuous development of Sino-Russian friendship.(ZhongXin)
