After five years, I was happy to be back in Wenzhou, and the trip to Longgang was a much-needed welcome. This was the first time I had ever visited this town. Longgang is a small town on the outskirts of Wenzhou. It took about 1 hour to get there by bus. The journey to Longgang was calm and peaceful- no hustle or bustle.
Longgang has a uniquely beautiful scenery with abundant fresh and crisp air. The infrastructure is well-maintained and up to remarkable standards. We visited the museum, where we had a detailed and informative history lesson. From the ancient art drawn on animal skin to the puppet show, which entails a lot of skills behind the scenes and that was so much fun to witness and even more fun trying to do it ourselves.
Although I am in a medical career, I have a great passion for mathematics, and this was a pleasant surprise as we had a brief lesson on calculating using the abacus. It was fascinating to imagine how the people of the old years would use an abacus to count money and do all mathematical operations in institutions such as banks.

The next stop was to try on the delicacies of longing. I tasted the most delicious and rich beef soup and the stellar seafood. With the added toppings, it was top-notch- a Michelin star meal. This was coupled with some delightful pastry- and we know food is a love language to many, and I am definitely on that list.
We had the honor of visiting the local primary school and instantaneously impressed by the system of education. Education was properly balanced with extracurricular activities to ensure wholesome development of talent and skill and also to breaj the monotomy of sitting in a classroom. We were entertained by the skill in which played the musical instruments and their agility when it came to gymnastics. The future lies in our children and I believe Longgang has a bright future.
We wrapped our tour with a visit to the hospital. To note that although it was a level 1 hospital it was running very efficiently, handling all non-life threatening emergencies with elaborate referral systems for the severe cases. In addition, they incorporated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).Combining western and TCM is the best balance to practice medicine in my opinion as it gives the patient the best of both worlds and thus improves the overall outcome.
I would like to thank Wenzhou Medical University and the Longgang community and organizers of this excursion for the pleasant interactions we had. I will definitely return with friends over the years of my stay here in Wenzhou. I am proud to be an one of the ambassadors to this great city.
