The second East China Sea Yellow Croaker Festival opens

On May 13th, the second Donghai Yellow Croaker Festival was held on Lu Xi Island, Dongtou District, Wenzhou. Various activities such as handmade fishing net weaving, yellow croaker cooking competition and fireworks show attracted many visitors.

The handmade fishing net weaving competition started in the morning and attracted 20 fisherwomen between the ages of 38 and 62. After the competition, the opening ceremony began with a unique fishing village style. The yellow croaker cooking competition followed with 15 dishes made by fisherwomen earning the praise of judges and locals. Other activities included the Yellow Croaker Banquet, free auction for the Yellow Croaker King fish, fishing competition and various experiences. 

A responsible officer of the district stated that they hope to promote employment and skills upgrading while showcasing the unique characteristics of the fishing culture through these kinds of activities. 

In the evening, there were beach bonfires and a fireworks show. According to an elderly man from Ningbo, who recently returned home after living abroad for years and came to Lu Xi Island to enjoy tourism, the event allowed him to experience the island's unique landscape and taste high-quality yellow croaker. 

In recent years, Dongtou is developing their"ecological yellow croaker industry" and has launched their"Yellow Croaker Banquet" catering brand, opened over 30 stores, and offered various other yellow croaker-related products and leisure fishing projects. 

As a result, more than 50 sea-view homestays with over 600 beds have been developed, creating jobs for over 350 people with an average annual income of more than 60,000 yuan. Moreover, Zhijian Dongyi Marine Group Co., Ltd.'s production of yellow croaker was selected as"Ping Zi Biao-Zhejiang Agricultural Products" brand for 2022. (ZhongXin)
